B.B.F. has been registered with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) since 1973, and its new president Paul Thompson, vice presidents Brads Neal and Charles Ellis, Secretary General Julian Murillo and Treasurer Luigi Zaldivar have declared the B.B.F. to be a non-profit organization, whose mission is “to grow and develop all aspects of basketball through inclusion and account-ability.”
Their objective is to restore Belize to the regional basketball powerhouse it was decade ago when Belize hosted and won the Central American basketball champion-ships at the Belize Civic Center. They aim to make basketball the most popular sport in Belize by developing the organizational structure of players, coaches and officials at every level, to build and develop young talent through organized competitions for males and females, and to market the sport as an activity with social values of education and economic opportunity as a positive alternative to juvenile delinquency which leads to drugs and crime.
