ABIDJAN – Over thirty basketball coaching instructors from all corners of Africa took part in a three-day (March 26-28) FIBA Coaching Programme in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.
Supervised by Australian Michael Haynes and FIBA Africa Coaches Council Chairman Habib Cherif, the workshop offered participants a pilot course aiming to maximize Instructors' coaching skills. It followed the release of the World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) coaching manuals in 2016.
"The WABC has launched a new coaching programme, and it was therefore important for us to upgrade all the African instructors," Cherif said.
"We thank FIBA Africa for the opportunity. And I hope that participants can conduct coaching levels 1, 2 and 3 courses, which was a central part of this workshop," he added.
Haynes added: ''This workshop was an opportunity to review the participants’ skills. I really appreciated their passion for the game and the understanding of some of the issues in teaching. Their understanding of how people learn and coach the juniors and seniors."
