FIBA AFRICA WOMEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2007, WOMEN
TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Overall this is a very quick, hard playing team. Roles are defined and played out well. Best on the
defensive boards and in transition. Prefer transition to the half court game. Will create havoc on
defensive with active hands and defensive rotation. They have several three point threats which
helps the inside attack. Because all five players can bounce it to the rim they can be hard to guard.
TRANSITION

Defensive rebounding keys the transition game. Aggressive front line players rebound and outlet
quickly. Point guard has great quickness and makes good decisions. First option is to throw ahead to
open wing players. Second option is the open shot or penetration to the rim. Very good production in
transition.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES

All five players are able to handle the ball on the perimeter and get to the basket. Tendencies on
offense include getting the ball to post players on the block and in the high post, high low action,
hand backs and pentrate and pitch. All are good passers and play proper roles on offense.
SET PLAYS
- Double
high on ball screen. Becomes high low action or point takes it all
the way to the rim.

- Dribble
out to 4 out 1 in. Spread the floor to isolate post.

Zone offense begins from a 3 out 2 in set. Posts play short corner, blocks and flash into the paint.
Option—On ball reversal they use post to screen the back player in the zone to free guard for open
shot.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS

Hard playing half court man to man defensive team. Use team quickness to deny wings and deny
post feeds. Create steals with hands and collapsing team defense. Good weak side help on
penetration.
