Ferro defeated Defensor Sporting, 73-64, in the match that started Group B in Sao Paulo.
The team from Buenos Aires had an effective start, to create a 10-point lead that remained for the rest of the game.
Ferro was led offensively by team captain Kevin Hernandez who scored 13 points and captured 6 rebounds. John De Groat led the offense for Defensor Sporting with 18 points.
The hosts of Group B debuted at the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana with a 90-66 win over Las Ánimas.
Arthur Pecos led the way for the hosts with 18 points and 8 assists. For the Chilean club, Kristian Clarkson was the best with 19 points and 6 rebounds.
Tomorrow on the second day of Group B, Corinthians will face Defensor Sporting, while Las Ánimas will face Ferro Carril Oeste.
