Following FIBA's intervention, the club Besiktas Jimnastik Kulübü honoured the FAT award and paid the adjudicated amounts to the claimants.
Summary of the case:
The American player Alexis Hornbuckle and the players’ agents Brian Dyke and John Baptiste filed a claim against the Turkish club Besiktas JK for compensation for breach of contract, compensation for the possible negative effect on the player’s reputation caused by an article posted on the internet, and outstanding agent fees.
The player requested full payment of her salaries for the 2008/2009 season, alleging that the club terminated the contract without just cause.
In its answer, the club denied the above claims submitting that the player behaved in an undisciplined manner during training and contests that had a negative impact on her performance, the motivation of her teammates and the club’s reputation.
The Arbitrator decided to partially uphold the claim.
