TAIPEI CITY (2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship) - With FIBA Women's World Championship experience on their roster and as a member of the region's leading quartet down the years, Chinese Taipei enter the 2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship with their eyes on the podium.
While they have traditionally found themselves just short of a top three place and so often the fourth one out, there have been times when they have capitalised on occasional shortcomings of powerhouse rivals China, Japan and Korea.
Chinese Taipei finished third the last time the tournament was held in China exactly a decade ago - which could feel like something of a good omen heading to Wuhan.
Their last third-place prior to that was back in 1999 in Shuzuoka and they are also still calling upon players who took to the global stage back in 2006 for the FIBA Women's World Championship to form the spine of their team.
Chi-Wen Lin and You-Ruei Li both appeared in Brazil nine years ago, as did veteran warrior Chun-Yi Liu who will once again lead the team on and off the floor, having also featured at the 2002 FIBA Women's World Championship which was also on Chinese soil.
However, the team that will step out this weekend will be almost unrecognisable from the one that appeared at the 2013 FIBA Asia Women's Championship in Bangkok.
Only the experienced aforementioned trio survive what has been a major cull and that means several new faces.
One of the debutantes will be Hsi-Le Bao - otherwise known as Joy Burke. At 1.96m tall, she will give her team unprecedented height in the paint and therefore the Arizona State graduate could be a key ingredient when the action gets underway.
She made her debut recently in the William Jones Cup.
Chinese Taipei roster for 2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship: Hsi-Le Bao, Chi-Fang Chang, Hsin-Ko Chang, Ping-Jen Huang, You-Ruei Li, Chi-Wen Lin, Yu-Ting Lin, Chun-Yi Liu, Szu-Chin Peng, Li-Yun Wang, Yu-Chun Wei, Ying-Chieh Wu.
