Excitement and great expectations at the beginning of the fourth Youth Development Program Elite Camp
SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - The YMCA of San Juan, is currently hosting the fourth edition of the Youth Development Program Elite Camp until Sunday.
SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) - The YMCA of San Juan, is currently hosting the fourth edition of the Youth Development Program Elite Camp until Sunday.
The YDP Camp has the best 22 prospects from Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago, between the ages of 16 and 17. In addition to the presence of eight coaches and 12 referees in the Camp for Young Referees.

The first day featured the taking of anthropometric measurements and physical evaluations, as well as a welcome speech for all the participants and a lecture by historic Puerto Rican Coach Flor Melendez.
The International Basketball Federation of the Americas is carrying out the fourth edition of the YDP in San Juan, after hosting three successful editions in Campinas (Brazil), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Mexico City (Mexico).

The second day of the YDP Camp will include skills development sessions, a conference on nutrition by DR. Carolyn Landrau, team practices, and five-on-five games.

The Youth Elite Camp falls under the umbrella of one of FIBA Americas’ Key Pillars, the Youth Development Program that has the following objectives:
• Seek and Develop the Elite Young Players in the Americas with a view of having these participants elevating the quality of their National Teams by the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 and the Paris Olympic Games 2024
• Establish a process for tracking and monitoring young talent in their Evolution and Progression in the Americas Region
• Work hand in hand with Key Stakeholders and National Federations Identifying the Talent
The Program, that will be executed through individual camps and development of young talent, is structured into three pillars: growing access of basketball to young athletes, giving more opportunities for them to develop their game and creating a platform for the elite youth players of the Americas.
