BOURGES (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2017) - Host nation France are bidding to make the Final of the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship for the first time since 2007.

That is where most eyes will be focused on during the penultimate day in Bourges, as the newly-installed favorites look to end what has been an agonising and perhaps inexplicable drought.

In the Semi-Finals, the French face a tough Italian side that dumped out defending champions Spain and won't want a loss at this stage after suffering the same feat 12 months ago on home soil.

Latvia made history by making it to the last four for the first time and they play a team-orientated Hungary side that love to share the ball and are defensively solid. Much could hinge on the continued good form of the tournament's leading scorer in Latvian powerhouse Laura Meldere.

With one ticket left for both the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2018, Spain face Poland and Russia match-up with Germany, with the two winners contesting the last European spot on Saturday.

There is also one survival ticket remaining and Netherlands, Romania and Belarus all face must-win situations on Friday in order to stay in the top flight. With Lithuania exempted from being relegated to Division B as hosts of next year's edition of this championship, the three teams are effectively doing battle to finish 13th on Saturday in order to avoid the drop.
