LYON (France) - The SuperCup Women 2023 looks like being an absolute blockbuster as reigning EuroCup Women champions LDLC ASVEL Feminin host EuroLeague Women title holders Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding.
LYON (France) - The SuperCup Women 2023 looks like being an absolute blockbuster as reigning EuroCup Women champions LDLC ASVEL Feminin host EuroLeague Women title holders Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding.
Both clubs will participate in the 12th edition of the competition with LDLC ASVEL Feminin looking to continue the momentum of EuroCup Women winners, with Valencia Basket and Tango Bourges Basket having won the last two in this capacity.
Another dimension to the 2023 SuperCup Women Final is that ASVEL and Fenerbahce will meet during the forthcoming EuroLeague Women Regular Season having been drawn together in Group A.
The live broadcast of the game will be available to watch live and for free on the EuroLeague Women YouTube channel, with tip-off scheduled for 20:00 CET on Thursday, September 28.
Live stats and play-by-play will be available here.
LDLC ASVEL Feminin
This season could be something of a slow burner for ASVEL because starting the campaign in top gear has simply not been an option. They have had a number of players injured and unavailable, which will still be the case heading into this game and that has been a big headache for playcaller, David Gautier.
The dynamic duo of Marine Johannes and Gabby Willams are yet to link up with the squad, while the key quartet of Julie Allemand, Sandrine Gruda, Endy Miyem and Juste Jocyte have all been sidelined with injuries. Hopefully some of those in this list will be able to suit up for this showpiece Final and provide some support to the likes of Marine Fauthoux, Alexia Chery, Laura Quevedo and Helena Ciak who have had to battle in difficult circumstances.
Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding
Few people anticipated Marina Maljkovic not being in situ for the start of the season after she masterminded that historic first ever EuroLeague Women title last season. Nevertheless, the holders and the Serbian national team coach parted ways and it has been a return to the helm for Class of 2023 FIBA Hall of Fame inductee Valerie Garnier who has a second spell at the helm.

In terms of personnel, Fenerbahce are also waiting on some ballers to land in the squad, although with FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 MVP Emma Meeseman leading the side, the urgency is far from acute. She has been a tower of strength as usual, while much is expected from frontcourt partner Tilbe Senyurek this season. Yvonne Anderson will direct the traffic in the backcourt, Nikolina Milic is now with the team and further strength could be added with the arrival of Kayla McBride and the newly announced Napheesa Collier.
Key Matchup
Marine Fauthoux is back at Lyon after balling and impressing in EuroLeague Women while on loan at Basket Landes. With Julie Allemand doubtful having suffered a hamstring issue recently, it's likely that the French playmaker will have to continue stepping up and leading from the backcourt.
She will go up against the highly experienced Anderson who played on French soil last year with Bourges before making the switch to Istanbul. Both players know each other well and it should be an intriguing and potentially decisive duel.
Form Guide
It's been a rough start to the campaign for short-handed ASVEL who were beaten in the French Cup of Champions by Basket Landes and then crashed at Roche Vendee BC in the opening league fixture last weekend.
Fenerbahce are 3-0 in the Turkish league although one of those was a nail-biting and dramatic defeat to arch rivals Cukurova Basketbol Mersin - a result subsequently overturned due to an administration error by their opponents.
