VALENCIA (Euroleague Women) - Russia's teams have garnered most of the headlines at the start of the EuroLeague Women but a certain team from Spain could end up having the last laugh by season's end.

That team is Ros Casares of Valencia, a side that lost to Spartak Moscow Region in the 2006-07 final but so far is undefeated in all competitions after a 92-81 triumph at Dynamo Moscow on Wednesday.

Manolo Real, who took over after the start of last season and led Ros on their great run to the final four, was very excited by his team's effort which has left them top of Group D.

"The team has proved in Moscow that it has character and fighting spirit," Real said.

"It has been a difficult job to stop Anete Jekabsone but in the end, we have taken home the win."

Jekabsone-Zogota, the Latvian international, played the entire game and scored a game-high 28 points while Delisha Milton-Jones scored 19 for the winners.

"Our aim is to continue with the same mentality, game by game," Real said.

"Next Wednesday, we play host to TEO Vilnius and that is the key game to keep ourselves in the top position in the group."

Things are unravelling very quickly for Dynamo's Latvian head coach Ainars Zvirgzdins.

The setback was the first for Dynamo in Europe, but in Russia's women's Superleague they are eighth with just two wins and three defeats.

The unavailability of Nuria Martinez, who played with some of Ros Casares' internationals like Elisa Aguilar and Laia Palau this summer at the EuroBasket Women, didn't help Dynamo.

"Ros Casares is strong team," he said.

"They reached the final game in the Euroleague last season.

"I'm sure that if Nuria Martinez was in the game tonight, we could have won.

"But Ros Casares won the end of the game due to their experience. Not all players of our team are ready to play at such high level."

The other Moscow side, CSKA, had no problems in Group A as they hammered ESB Lille Metropole in France, 99-48.

MKB Euroleasing beat Phard Napoli 82-69 and Fenerbahce edged TTT Riga 71-69.

In Group B, Wisla Can-Pack scraped a 74-71 triumph over ZVVZ Prague and UMMC Ekaterinburg won 78-63 over Jolly JBS Sibenik of Croatia.

Halcon Avenida were narrow 69-65 winners over Bourges Basket.

The champions of two years ago, Gambrinus Sika Brno, thrashed Kosit 2013 85-68 in Group C.

In Group D, TEO Vilnius were upset at home by Germano Zama Faenza 86-80.
