KOSICE (EuroLeague Women) - Slovakian Basketball Association president Rudolf Petrovsky was not the only person marvelling at the quality on show as Group C leaders Spartak Moscow Region beat Kosit 2013 84-62 in Kosice on Wednesday in front a tournament record crowd.
Some 7,120 fans were in attendance at the Steel Arena - surpassing the 5,500 who turned up to a game in Pecs, Hungary, three years ago - as Tatiana Shchegoleva scored 19 points and pulled down five rebounds to all but seal Spartak's place in the last 16.
Petrovsky reflected: "Something like this has never happened in Slovakia or in Europe, so I am very happy. We broke a record in attendance thanks to the interest of people in Kosice - it is something special for sure."
Elsewhere, Sandrine Gruda netted 19 points as Group B leaders UMMC Ekaterinburg maintained their 100% record with an 81-72 win at ZVVZ Prague.
And CSKA Moscow made it six wins from six with a 87-56 thumping of TTT Riga in Group A.
In Group D, leaders Ros Casares Valencia are looking formidable after maintaining their perfect record with a 94-54 demolition of fifth-placed Germano Zama Faenza, while second-placed USO Mondeville Basket are back in contention after beating TEO Vilnius 64-62 to take their record to 2-4.
In other games, MKB Euroleasing Sopron beat ESB Lille Metropole 65-61, Wisla Can-Pack edged Halcon Avenida 80-72, Jolly JBS Sibenik went down 74-64 against Bourges Basket and USVO humbled Dexia W Namur 79-55.
