VITORIA (Euroleague) – Tau Ceramica won last season’s Spanish ACB crown and now the Basque club is taking aim at glory in Europe.

The Vitoria side began their quest for the Euroleague title on Monday with a season-opening 80-70 home triumph over Fenerbahce.

Igor Rakocevic, left off Dusan Ivkovic’s Serbia side this summer, poured in 24 points to lead Tau with center Will McDonald contributing 18 and Pete Mickeal 15.

A shoulder injury has prevented Brazil center Tiago Splitter from playing at the start of the campaign for Tau but the team has still won all of its games, including all four played so far in the ACB.

“We still have things to improve,” Tau coach Dusko Ivanovic said. “Considering this was our first game and considering our injuries, I am satisfied.”
