KAUNAS (Euroleague) - Aco Petrovic must have known his days were numbered when he agreed to coach Zalgiris Kaunas this season in the Euroleague.
Zalgiris didn't hesitate to make changes at the top last season, even during the LKL Finals showdown with Lietuvos Rytas when they sacked Darius Maskoliunas and let the players coach themselves.
The Lithuanian giants have made their first change in 2010-11 by showing Petrovic the door despite the team's 9-0 record in the LKL, 5-3 mark in the Euroleague and 4-1 start in the VTB United League.
Zalgiris decided to show Petrovic the door following the club's 72-63 defeat at Azovmash in the VTB United League.
Rimantas Grigas has replaced the Serbian coach at the helm and will lead the team on Wednesday night in the home game against Caja Laboral.
Zalgiris will clinch a spot in the Last 16 with a victory.
Grigas and assistant Oliver Kostic led the team in practice on Tuesday.
Zalgiris said they were "satisfied with the results of the team" in a statement on the club website, but said the club's game (performances) were not meeting expectations.
