MILAN (Euroleague) – Wednesday night had a major upset in the Euroleague as previously unbeaten CSKA Moscow lost 80-79 at Armani Jeans Milano.

Piero Bucchi’s Milano trailed 34-14 midway through the second quarter and were still behind 43-26 at half-time but came from behind to stun the defending champions 80-79.

Armani Jeans ace David Hawkins banked in a running jumper with 9.1 seconds to play for the go-ahead basket.

After a CSKA timeout, the Russian team got the ball to last year’s Euroleague Player of the Year Ramunas Siskauskas and the Lithuanian tripped before turning the ball over and that proved to be the last chance for Ettore Messina’s team.

Hawkins had 20 points and Luca Vitali 17 for Armani Jeans Milano, who won for just the second time in six games while dropping CSKA to 5-1.

Panionios OT also won a close game at home by beating Spanish giants Real Madrid 68-66.

Croatia national team star Marko Tomas had a season-high 18 points but it wasn’t enough to beat the Greeks whose Serbia international Branko Cvetkovic led all scorers with 21.

In other games, Olympiacos won 91-66 over Air Avellino, Asseco Prokom lost at home to Montepaschi Siena 83-71, Unicaja Malaga stormed to an 87-55 triumph at Le Mans and Partizan Belgrade prevailed 83-77 at home over Efes Pilsen.
