Euroleague Final Four 2012 Olympiacos
Team Characteristics
They play the fastest basketball focusing on primary and secondary breaks. They are a guard oriented team who create options for their teammates. Extensive use of pick & roll and hand offs for their guards, especially for Spanoulis. In most possessions he holds the ball most of the possession. They are very good in rebounding and contest all shots.
Transition
They run the fast break very well by passing and running. All players run the floor, even after receiving a basket all players will push the ball and run the floor constantly. If Spanoulis or Hines get the ball they will look for coast to coast drives. If a shooter gets the ball they will take every catch and shoot option without hesitation. With Printezis on the court they will look for him as the first trailer to receive the ball in the low post. As a secondary option they use the early pick & roll or the re-pick.

Offensive Tendencies
Pick & roll with quick executions. Virtually no entries and few off ball screens are used. For long sets they run the continuous pick & roll. Everything relies on their penetrations. Every player is attacking his opponent 1 vs. 1, even their centers attack facing the basket from any position.
Set Plays
Hand Off offensive set: The idea of this play is that Spanoulis gets the ball after a help side down screen followed by a hand off. Usually this hand off gives him enough advantage to penetrate to the basket, but if that doesn’t work he will call for a pick & roll option.
Stagger offensive set: The stagger is only used to switch the side of the offense and will be followed by a side pick & roll. The players are reading the defense and are quick in creating stagger direct game situations or hand off situations.
Zone Offense
First option they use is the ball screen right away to penetrate. They usually look to establish an overload. If that doesn’t work they will try to swing through their power forwards Antic/Printezis to the other side. Pick & roll will be their continuation. With such strong penetrators and shooters from outside it’s a team one should play much zone against.
OB Plays
They will be use a single down screen or back screen to get a player in position to penetrate. If their first options are denied they will just use a pick & roll to create a scoring possibility. They hustle for the offensive boards being especially strong in BOB situations.
Defensive Characteristics
They are switching a lot since most of their players are about 2.00 meters tall and are ready to defend any position. They have several small guards, which are often posted up in defense therefore this could be considered a weakness. Sometimes they use the 2-3 zone in OB situations or with the clock running down. They are collapsing very well and they help out constantly. All players drop below the level of the ball and create space shortages for their opponents.
