    EUROLEAGUE FINAL FOUR 2010, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
This team has the most versatile transition offense in the Euroleague. They finish the break in many different ways. Special situations are also very important in their game plan. They use not only SOB and BOB effectively, but also end of period or end of game plays. They have special sets when they need a three pointer or when they are down. In their Pick & Roll they have reached a level where they include not only a third but a fourth player in their action, either with backdoor or high-low options. Last but not least their entries differ based on which players are on the court. What is most fundamental in their defensive behavior is that all five players constantly correct their position in relation to the ball, and they drop to the ball line, closing the space for drives and passes. It seems as though the opponents are permanently attacking a matchup zone. This is a team that can turn any score around in just two minutes using their defense.

    TRANSITION
When pointing out a specific pattern one should state the dribble penetration from the free throw line extended by Navarro and Mickeal. They also use early Pick & Roll which will mainly result in a lay-up or runner. The ball is advanced either dribbling or with a long baseball pass.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
What make them special are the many curls, backdoor cuts, high-low options and isolations for Mickeal in the high post. For the centers they will set up screens to get them in position and the guards will use handoffs to pull a shot right away. With individual options one should mention besides Mickeal and Navarro, Basile with his stagger catch and shoot, Lakovic with his Pick & Roll shots and Lorbek with his outside shot.

    SET PLAYS
Low Post Isolation: Starts with a middle Pick & Roll. This is followed by either screen the screener or an up screen for the center to get in position. When the ball is passed into the low post the opposite power forward will cut to the high post to open the high-low option. If none of these work the ball will be given to one of the guards for a hand-off or Pick & Roll to finish the set.

Shuffle: The shuffle is played for Mickeal to cut in the low post and play back to basket or he will go to the perimeter and play one on one. If this is denied the point guard will use screen the screener action and play Pick & Roll looking for Lorbek as the third man involved at the perimeter for a catch and shoot.

Stagger Offense: Starts with side dribble entry followed by a weak side stagger for Navarro, who will then ask for a Pick & Roll with the closest inside player from the stagger. The other option is with Mickeal flashing to the high post and looking to play one on one from there.

    ZONE OFFENSE
They will try to set screens at the free throw line extended whenever possible. Besides that their shooting guards cut diagonally to the opposite corners or cut backdoor. With all players shooting well and strong drives and backdoor options, this is a team that not many others have the courage to play zone against.

    OB PLAYS
On SOB they prefer to use the Diamond set for Basile or Navarro. Both of them will choose one side and then pass the ball back and run through the stagger to the opposite side. They make their defenders chase them, but with both of them shooting fast it makes it impossible to defend their shots. On BOB they have an entry situation that will be followed by a stagger for the same two players. If that does not work they will pass the ball inside and score close to the basket.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
In transition they start to pick up at the back court perimeter and align in two defensive lines. Besides that they will force the player with the ball to the side in transition. In Pick & Roll they use all variations possible depending on the opponent’s players. In defending the low post they will not rotate with the center from the weak side, instead choosing to collapse with the ball side guard.
