EUROLEAGUE – Alba Berlin lose to Union Olimpija but still advance after DKV fall at Tau

BERLIN (Euroleague) - Union Olimpija of Ljubljana did Top-16 chasing DKV Joventut a big favor by beating Alba Berlin in Germany but the Badalona outfit couldn't capitalize after failing to upset Tau Ceramica in Vitoria.

Vladimir Golubovic had 21 points for Union Olimpija in a in a 67-59 victory at Berlin, however the Germans still progressed because DKV fell 91-83 at Tau.

Alba and DKV each finished Group C play with four wins and six defeats, but the former sealed fourth place after prevailing in both of their games against Joventut.

Vladimir Golubovic led Union Olimpija with 21 points in their triumph while for group winners Tau (8-2), Igor Rakocevic scored 19 and both Tiago Splitter of Brazil and Mustafa Shakur contributed 18.

Fenerbahce Ulker needed overtime but beat Lottomatica Roma 90-86 in a battle of sides that had already booked Top 16 spots.

Emerging Turkey international Oguz Savas poured in 27 points for Fener, who ended up 6-4 like Roma.

The Romans ended up second in Group C because they had a better goal differential in the games played between themselves and Fenerbahce.

In other games, Air Avellino didn't advance to the Top 16 but nevertheless finished their Euroleague campaign on a high with a 79-75 triumph over Cibona, who had already clinched a spot in the Top 16.

Drake Diener had 20 points to lead Avellino (3-7).

Cibona ended Group A play in fourth place with five wins from 10 games.

Olympiacos (6-4) were upset 78-68 at home to Le Mans (2-8) but held on to second place in Group A because Maccabi Tel Aviv (6-4) were hammered 92-69 at group winners Unicaja Malaga (8-2).
