Familiar faces to be found again for Montenegro

PODGORICA (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017) – Montenegro may have a new play-caller in situ in the shape of Roberto Iniguez, but the playing personnel for FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 has a very familiar feel.

PODGORICA (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017) – Montenegro may have a new play-caller in situ in the shape of Roberto Iniguez, but the playing personnel for FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 has a very familiar feel.

Indeed, with limited depth, there's an argument that the squad more or less picks itself - with the Spanish play-caller able to call upon the core of stars that has been the backbone of three successive appearances at the Final Round.

Montenegro 16-player squad for FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017

Snezana Aleksic Andjela Bigovic Jelena Dubljevic Milica Jovanovic
Irena Matovic Milica Milosev Bozica Mujovic Jovana Pasic
Marina Pejovic Iva Perovanovic Natasa Popovic Kristina Rakovic
Angelica Robinson Jelena Skerovic Jelena Vucetic Dragana Zivkovic

Leading the 16-strong candidate list is reigning WNBA champion Jelena Dubljevic and she will form a terrific frontcourt as usual, with the naturalized Angelica Robinson who played against her national team-mate in the EuroCup Women Final, where she scooped up the silverware with Yakin Dogu Universitesi.

The towering and powerful Iva Perovanovic and underrated Milica Jovanovic, who have also both been playing their club basketball in Turkey, add further strength.

Veteran legend Jelena Skerovic will continue to orchestra proceedings from the point guard position, with Snezana Aleksic alongside her.

Montenegro will play in Group D against Belgium, Latvia and Russia.
