BUDAPEST (EuroBasket Women 2017) – Hungary will be pinning their hopes on the recently naturalized Courtney Vandersloot to carry them past the Group phase at FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017.

The playmaker, who competed for Hungary for the first time during last November’s decisive Qualifying window, is back on board and ready to pull the strings.

Debora Dubei Zsofia Fegyverneky Bernadett Hatar Bernadett Horvath
Szidonia Katona Tijana Krivacevic Zsofia Licskai Dora Medgyessy

Courtney Vandersloot Zsofia Varga Dorina Zele

Vandersloot guided Yakin Dogu Universitesi to a maiden EuroCup Women triumph last week and will give her adopted country a major edge in the backcourt.

Looking to back-up Vandersloot is renowned 3x3 baller Dora Medgyessy, who starred in EuroCup Women with VBW CEKK Cegled but has never played in a FIBA EuroBasket Women Final Round and will be eager for a debut.

The biggest concern for head coach Stefan Svitek is likely to be his team’s lack of experience in the paint, with much hinging on Tijana Krivacevic.

However, the inclusion of Duquesne graduate Amadea Szamosi, who has impressed in the NCAA and at youth level, does suggest he may be ready to turn the page under the basket.

Hungary will play in Czech Republic, Spain and Ukraine in Group A.
