Behind the wheel: Who are the coaches of all 32 national teams?
MUNICH (Germany) - Thirty-two nations are about to embark on the road to the FIBA EuroBasket 2025. Here is a look at some of the bigger names among the head coaches and other interesting tidbits.
MUNICH (Germany) - Thirty-two nations are about to embark on the road to the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 with the start of the Qualifiers and some of the best coaches in Europe will be patrolling the sidelines.
The list of coaches some new names and quite a few that have been around, with France's Vincent Collet the longest-serving playcaller among the 32 coaches - and that by quite a bit.
Vincent Collet has been with the French national team since 2009.
The 60-year-old Collet has held the reins in France since 2009, helping Les Bleus to the 2013 EuroBasket title as well as second placed showings at EuroBaskets 2011 and 2022. Collet and France also have joined up for silver at the 2020 Olympics and two third places at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
In second place for the longest coach-national team relationship is Iceland and Craig Pedersen with the Canadian in office with the Scandinavian team since 2014.
Right behind Pedersen is Sergio Scariolo, who has been calling the shots for Spain since 2015.
The 62-year-old Italian has already become one of the legends in the game, guiding Spain to the FIBA Basketball World Cup title in 2019 as well as four EuroBasket crowns, including the 2022 trophy.

Scariolo, who also owns two Olympic medals and a 2019 NBA championship ring, has a chance in 2025 to take sole possession of second place with the most EuroBasket titles as a coach behind the great Alexander Gomelsky, who is the all-time leader with six EuroBasket trophies.
Another big name among the national team coaches is Ergin Ataman, who is in his second stint as Turkiye boss. The 58-year-old has been in charge of the national team since 2022 after a run from 2014 to 2016. Ataman has left his mark in Europe as he guided Anadolu Efes Istanbul to back-to-back EuroLeague crowns in 2021 and 2022.
The February window will also be highlighted by the national team coaching debut of Vassilis Spanoulis, who took over the Greece team in October 2023.
After winning the 2005 EuroBasket and taking second at the 2006 FIBA World Cup, the three-time EuroLeague champion Spanoulis is currently spending his second season on the sidelines with Greek side Peristeri.

Spanoulis is one of many coaches who are still finding their ways with the national teams. To be precise, he is one of 17 coaches who have been hired since 2022; the newest member of national team coaching circle is Aleksandar Dzikic, who took over at Georgia in January 2024.
In terms of nationalities, Croatia holds the distinction as the most-represented country among in the coaching ranks with four: Dario Gjergja (Belgium), Igor Milicic (Poland), Aramis Naglic (Slovakia) and Josip Sesar (Croatia).
Italy ranks second with three coaches: Luca Banchi (Latvia), Gianmarco Pozzecco (Italy) and Sergio Scariolo (Spain).
