LJUBLJANA (Slovenia) - The wait is over: FIBA EuroBasket 2017 MVP Goran Dragic has confirmed that he will play in September's tournament, to help Slovenia defend their title.

Dragic came out of retirement for the recent FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers and finally ended speculation as to whether his international return would be extended with a simple two-worded caption on Twitter.

Dragic led Slovenia to the title five years ago as the MVP of the tournament and reunites with Luka Doncic, who has become the star of the national team in his absence.

The duo were a lethal combination as Dragic put up 22.6 points and 5.1 assists per game, while Doncic finished with tournament averages of 14.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists as an 18-year-old.

    ...

Slovenia's title defense begins in Cologne, Germany as they take on Lithuania in their Group B opener on September 2, 2022 with a mouth-watering clash with France to close out the Group Phase.
