FIBA EuroBasket Dream Teams: Serbia

MUNICH (Germany) - The land of basketball needs no special introduction. Serbia always had the the highest of goals and has usually met them in FIBA EuroBasket history.

The main difference has come in the name on the jersey. In 2001, FR Yugoslavia won gold in Turkey, before becoming Serbia and Montenegro for the next two FIBA EuroBasket campaigns. Since 2007, Montenegro went on their own independent path, while Serbia has continued the proud tradition of its predecessors. 

The most memorable moments for Serbia came in FIBA EuroBasket 2009 and FIBA EuroBasket 2017, reaching the Final on both occasions. First time around, Spain were too strong in Poland after a memorable Semi-Final thriller featuring Serbia and Slovenia.

The two countries had another nail-biting encounter eight years later in Istanbul, with Slovenia managing to defeat the Bogdan Bogdanovic-led Serbia in the Final, leaving Orlovi one step too short once again.

However, with the incredible talent pool at their disposal and having reached the Finals of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2014 and the 2016 Summer Olympics, the moment when Serbia stands alone at the top of the podium in an international competition seems to be just around the corner.
