LILLE (EuroBasket 2015) - The Board of FIBA Europe that convened in Lille on Saturday discussed the process for awarding the EuroBasket 2017 event.

The Board decided to open the bidding process for EuroBasket 2017 on 1 October 2015.

All Federations interested in organising the event will have to submit their bids by 2 November.

Evaluation commissions will visit all candidate venues in the month of November and submit their report to the FIBA Europe Board, which will discuss and decide the hosts at its next session on 11-12 December 2015.

As it was the case with EuroBasket 2015 there are three options available: federations can bid to organise the whole event, one Group Phase group or a Group Phase group and the Final Phase.

With regards to the competition system for the next EuroBasket the Board has approved some slight modifications to the current system which will see the addition of a rest day for the teams in the Group Phase and one extra rest day between the Group and Final Phases.

FIBA Europe President Mr Turgay Demirel praised the brilliant work of the four organisers of EuroBasket 2015 and extended a special thanks by the whole FIBA family to the French Federation for their excellent organisation of the Final Phase.
