    EUROBASKET 2009, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Play together very well as witnessed by their excellent passing, cutting and decision making. Scoring comes in transition, half court offense and from the free throw line. Defensively they mix it up keeping the offense off balance. Cohensive, confident, hard playing team. Offensive weapons at all five spots, especially in the post. When the ball goes inside, defenders are attracted to it, creating perimeter opportunities to space and prepare to shoot. Will play the entire court or half court man or zone. Size inside also makes it difficult to finish at the rim and a good number of shots are blocked or at least altered.

    TRANSITION
Score quickly on the break. Ball is advanced by dribble in middle of floor or pass ahead to teammates sprinting the floor. All perimeter players can advance the ball up the floor and make good decisions. Good three point shooting of the break. Posts run the floor and catch on the run to score. Many transition opportunities come from aggressive defensive play that forces turnovers by opponent.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Balance and skill define their offensive attack. The high/low game is a foundation of their offensive game. Posts are active and good passers in the high and low post areas. Baseline screens and hard cuts produce open shots by best shooters. Very skilled offensive team with good inside/outside balance. Constant screening action keep the defense chasing cutters which opens up the middle. On ball screen and roll action is main part of offense. Posts can roll, catch and score with efficiency.

    SET PLAYS
    1. Double high ball screens and roll to the basket.
    2. Weak side flash and ball reversal lead to high low pass and score.
    3. Baseline cut, cross screen and on ball screen.
    4. High post on ball screen, re-screen, and roll for basket.
    5. Wing entry, post step out, reversal, post to post down screen.
    6. Shuffle cut, screen the screener, post feed.

    ZONE OFFENSE
3 out, 2 in set against zones. Post flash into block area, paint, and high post. High post ball position leads to open shots, high/low passes and skip passes to opposite wing for open shots. Patient and clever against the zone yeilds good shots and offensive rebounds on missed shots.

    OB PLAYS
Starts in stack on ball side. Posts screen for perimeter players to catch and shoot on ball side. Secondary action uses screens that lead to weak side cuts. Once passed in, ball is reversed and they flow into offensive possession.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
The blocked shot is a big part of their defensive presence. Perimeter players are aggressive and disrupt the offensive flow by traps and reaching. Opponents must face long, aggressive posts who can block and alter shots at the rim. Many turnovers lead to easy basket on the other end.
