    EUROBASKET 2009, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Good balance of inside and outside scorers and passers. Extensive use of on ball screens usually set up top. Set plays are designed to free shooters with a secondary option of posting up. Can really turn it up offensively and score quickly. Lead by an excellent point guard they can score in many ways from many places on the floor. Inside/out action leads to penetration or open shots. Transition is a staple for them and can speed the game up to their liking.

    TRANSITION
Wings and post run the floor hard to beat to expose the opponents defensive transition. Break quickly after a turnover or missed shot with four or five players. Priorities are to throw ahead to the post man running down the middle of the floor, driving to the hole or shooting open three pointer or driving it to the sideline and feeding the post. Driving it to the lane is the goal on every transition. They cause pressure on the defense if they don't get back quickly and force many fouls.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
This team's offense come from point guard leadership. Always in an attack mode in full and half court. Post players work to gain space on the block and can score or throw back out, usually to the weak side. Point guard dominates the ball and excels coming off on ball screens. Post have good hands and catch passes consistently from perimeter players creating penetration. Hand offs, penetrate and pitch and cutting to the basket create a lot of offensive for them. On ball screens almost every possession. Good perimeter shooting team.

    SET PLAYS
    1. Shuffle cut followed by flare screen and roll.
    2. Starts with cut by point to top, followed by on ball screen and post isolation.
    1. Wing entry and ball reversal lead to back screen and throw back to same side for post up.
    2. Up cut, down screen, curl cut, and fade for shot.
    3. Entry pass followed by down screen, curl cut and drive to basket.

    ZONE OFFENSE
Excellent passing and court spacing against the zone makes them a threat. Use a mix of penetration, post flashes, skip passes, and basline cutters. On ball reversal perimeter players can cross screen for opposite post to free him in paint. Make good use of posts in the short corner and skip pass or score from there.

    OB PLAYS
Basic set is a four man stack with screens and cutters moving quickly to open areas. After screening, players can cut or slip to catch and score. Always looking for a cutters on the weak side after screens and cuts are made.
    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Good, solid half court man to man mixed with full court pressure. Will pick up full court man to man after dead balls or timeouts. Will trap when they have a chance. In half court, like to trap on ball screens and rotate well out of traps aided by good help side defense.
