    EUROBASKET 2007, WOMEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
This team is energized by its perimeter players. Intelligent perimeter players that can make open
shots, pass and organize offensive efforts. Offense is mainly a cutting motion with a few set plays.
Between transition and their cutting motion come most of their points. Standard man to man defense
with little gambling. Defense anchored by fundamental play and principles. Help and recover is a key
to their defense. Block out well and try to keep offense to one shot.

    TRANSITION
Transition is an integral part of their offensive system. Any of four players can get defensive rebound
and take it coast to coast. This frees other players up to run the floor and spread out. Rebounder
then takes the ball down the middle of the floor and drives to the rim or dishes to open player. Will
take open three even without a numbers advantage.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Very calculated on offense. Perimeter players are very good using on ball screens. Same player may
use same on ball screen three or four times until they create an opening. Use single and staggered
on ball screens with secondary action by stepping back or rolling to the hoop. Good ball handlers and
    passers.

    SET PLAYS
    1. Wing entry, UCLA action then goes weak side. Open side two man game with on ball screen.

    2. High post entry and reversal pass. Staggered screen away from ball followed by another.

    ZONE OFFENSE
Very basic 3 out 2 in set. Post may slide to high post and will set on ball screens on top zone
defenders. Post player take up space on the block and demand the ball. Perimeter action includes
pass and cut through the zone, skip passes and spotting up.

    OB PLAYS
Two basic strategies are used. One is to get ball on top and set on ball screen for open three point
shot or roll. Another look is to run screens for two baseline runners. The result is to use screens for
open shot or dump ball inside to post players.

    DEFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Defensively, they rely on position defense on the ball and away from it. They are a man to man team.
Close off passing lanes on the wings and when the ball is picked up. Good team concept.
