    RUSSIA
    EUROBASKET 2007, WOMEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Impressive team that is well balanced from an individual and team standpoint. Physically able to do
things on the floor that make a difference. Skilled offensive players with an understanding of their
purpose and roles. Focused on getting the ball to posts in low block or high post. By spreading the
floor they are hard to guard. Many players are able to pick up the scoring slack at any time.
Defensively they are proficient in man to man defensive principles and rebound the ball well.

    TRANSITION
Very quick to get ball advanced especially after turnover. Pushed ahead by pass and dribble.
Physically, they can take reaches and contact without turning the ball over. This resilience leads to
many baskets on the break. Start as many transition possessions with a steal as with a defensive
rebound. Once caught on the wing an open shot or hard drive to the goal put pressure on the
    defense.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
The key to offense is the ability for posts to play anywhere on the floor. Posts use the high post to
get shots, drive and pass high low. With active posts, the court of very open and spacing is optimal
for penetration all the way to the basket. All players can fake and drive by defenders. Good shooting
range for the entire team forces opponent's defenders to cover the entire half court.

    SET PLAYS
    1. UCLA cut to block. On reversal, down screening action of both sides of the floor.
    2. High post isolation. Guard uses on ball screen and throws back to screener. Post shoots or
penetrates from on top of the floor to score.
    3. Double hand off up top, using post as last screen as guard can step back and shoot over screen.

    ZONE OFFENSE
A free lance approach to zone offense is a good fit for this team. They are able to make the right
cuts, penetrate, and use the post players without a lot of zone structure or plays. Ball movement is
good and getting the ball to the high post is a tool for them. Quick ball reversal or skip passes find
    open shooters or post flashes.

    OB PLAYS
Run a box OB play where ball is thrown in out top. Inbounds player can come off screens to the left
or right to get open for shot. The other is a double stack on the lane. Best shooter cuts hard from the
lane to wing for a shot and consistently completes this play.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Can create havoc for the opponents with rangy, long reach. Get their hands on many balls and
create deflections. Post are hard to shoot over making post scoring difficult for the oppenent. Mainly
a man to man team. Well trained in man to man principles of close outs, help and recover and
blocking out on the defensive boards.
