    LATVIA
    EUROBASKET 2007, WOMEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Well balanced team without a dominant player. All players compliment each other and play their
roles well. Players are versatile and play multiple positions, even posts. Do a good job of running
sets and grinding possessions to breakdown the defense. Offense is creative using on ball screen
and roll, hand backs and penetration and dish. Do a good job on the defensive and offensive glass.

    TRANSITION
Good decision are made in transition but is not a major part of their total scoring output. If they have
numbers they will attempt to score or create a foul. If no numbers advantage they will back it out and
go right into their offense. With numbers on the break they are efficient. Like to throw ahead then
spot up as ball is thrown back out.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Offense is very much a team effort. All players play a role and stay within that role. Post are mobile
and play several spots on the floor. Will catch and face, look high/low, hand off to perimeter players
and drive it into an open area to the rim. Perimeter players rely on on ball screens, penetration and
open shots. When ball is in high post they will cut hard from either corner, causing a fould or creating
a shot. Run a lot of set plays and execute them well.

    SET PLAYS
    1. 4 Down. Point pass to wing and cuts through to left elbow. On catch, hard flex cut from right
      corner.
    2. Double High on ball screen. Options are to hit the roll to the basket or the other post for a three
      point shot.
    3. Over the top cut by wing. On the catch, wing is isolated for one on one to basket.

    ZONE OFFENSE
Zones are attacked with 3 out/2 in set. Post have freedom to set on the perimeter, high post or short
corner. Based on ball movement and player movement. Perimeter will pass and cut through zone to
open wings or corners. One strategy is to cut through and screen for post on the block.

    OB PLAYS
Baseline OB play starts in a box and as ball is reversed back to the top, guard will use on ball screen
from post player and use the option available. From the sideline, the passer in bounds will use a
Shuffle cut followed by a post us.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Defensive effort comes from half court man and zone defense. 2-3 zone is active but can be
vulerable to penetration. If this happen they attack the dribbler and the ball. Many times they will
come up with the ball. Good pressure on perimeter players. Force offense to hurry shots or take bad
shots. Also use a full court man defense and a 1-2-2 press to slow down the offense and run some
    clock.
