TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Balanced team that executes on offensive and defensive end. Disruptive defense allows them to
score in transition and gets opponent on its heels. Post players can catch and score inside and on
the break. On ball screens create many open shots over the screen and defender. Will penetrate in
half court offense but the goal is to get the ball inside to capable post players. Inside/out action on
post feeds.
TRANSITION
Very capable team in transition due to point guards ability to quickly advance the ball on the dribble.
Another feature is the running ability of the post players. Posts can run, catch and finish in one
motion. Prefer to take it to the hole versus shooting the three. Transition is a vcry important part of
their overall offensive scheme.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
Good passing team which is trademark of their offensive system. All players can pass with accuracy
and posts can catch cutting through the lane and score. Skip passes are common as are the two
man game on an open side. On ball screen involved in almost every possession. Depending on the
situation, on ball screen can be handled is several different ways. Guards tend to step to the on ball,
then crossover and drive it to the open side to the rim.
SET PLAYS
- Double
high set, guard uses on ball as post slips to the middle of the
lane. This high low set will
continue until the ball goes into the paint
- Single
high on ball screen. Guard drives off screen and can go to basket,
pass to post or open
wing.
- UCLA
action, guard cuts through and to opposite wing. Reversal pass,
small to big cross screen.
Will run a screen the screener for perimeter player or form a wide box and reverse the ball to the
weak side. Post that screens for in bounds passer can slip into the lane for a lay-up.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Very disruptive defensive team. Aggressive in the half court playing passing lanes, pressuring the
ball and doubling the post hard on any post feed. Doubling the post leads to turnovers and fast break
opportunities by this team. Employ a good 1-2-2 zone press in the full court. Begins as a man to
man but when the ball is driven to a sideline the defender on that side doubles the ball in the
backcourt or just into the front court. Create many turnovers with this press.
