TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Cohensive, confident, hard playing team. Offensive weapons at all five spots, especially in the post.
When the ball goes inside, defenders are attracted to it, creating perimeter opportunities to space
and prepare to shoot. Strong offensively inside and outside. Play together very well as witnessed by
their excellent passing, cutting and decision making. Scoring comes in transition, half court offense
and from the free throw line. Defensively they mix it up keeping the offense off balance. Will play the
entire court or half court man or zone. Pressure on the ball is constant and the passing lanes are
contested. Size inside also makes it difficult to finish at the rim. A good number of shots are blocked
or at least altered.
TRANSITION
Extremely dangerous in transition. Takes them a very short amount of time to get the ball to the
offensive end, either by turnover or defensive rebound. Green light by wings when ball is thrown
ahead on the break. Put a lot of pressure on the opponent to get back defensively and pick up
quickly. If defender is not to shooters on the catch it is too late. Shooting in transition leaves good
chances for posts to crash the offensive glass. They will score or get fouled when they rebound it off
missed shots in transition.
OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
A team of many offensive weapons. Difficult for the defense to stop all parts of this offense; inside,
outside, shooting, one-on-one play, offensive rebounding. Excellent shooting team but even better
passing the ball. Play with extreme confidence on offense and have a keen sense of where
teammates are on the floor at all times. Post play is the anchor to the offense, as they attempt to get
it inside every possession. Posts are big, can get angles and score in the post and mid-post area and
are excellent passers out of the post.
SET PLAYS
- Wing
entry, point takes back screen to the basket, ball reversal.

post pass from point. Point cuts through and chooses to come out the
double or single side
for shot.
- Like
#2 but wing player cuts baseline from one corner to the other using
two baseline screens.
Diversified zone attack. Combination of zone principles, man offense and quick hitting set plays. Lots
of screening on the top, ball side and weak side. Will flare screen for the point guard after he passes
to the wing. Posts will slip into open areas after screening, usually in the paint. By hitting open
perimeter shots, the inside game opens up. Good ball and player movement. Usually force the
defense out of their zone and back to man to man.
OB PLAYS
Most frequent baseline OB is a screen the screener play. Post screens to get guard open on ball side
wing and steps up the lane. When he draws the defender a little higher on the lane, he receives back
screen to the open side of the floor for lay up.
DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
They defend you all over the floor, baseline to baseline. Mix up man to man defense, 3-2 zone and
full court man to man and 1-2-2 trapping zone defense. Very aggressive, hard playing defenders.
Goal is to trap and disrupt the offense all over the floor. Press after made free throws or dead balls.
Jump through passing lanes in the half court to steal ball and score on the other end.
