    GERMANY
    EUROBASKET 2007, MEN

    TEAM CHARACTERISTICS
Team is centered around an outstanding post player. The ball goes through this player on nearly
every possession. A lot of set plays are run for him. He makes the team better because he is a good
pass and an unselfish player. Inside/out action is good and creates many open shots. They play well
together on both ends of the floor. Guards do a good job of controlling the tempo of the offense and
signaling what set plays to run. Board play is good but inconsistent at times. Very active on offense
    at all positions.

    TRANSITION
Capable of scoring in transition but is not a big priority. When the opportunity arises they take
advantage. Passes ahead to wings results in open three point attempts.

    OFFENSIVE TENDENCIES
This offense is a blend of passing, penetrating and cutting. Cutting without the ball is a specialty of
this team. When the ball is in the post, just off the post or on the baseline, cutters from the perimeter
recongnize that and beat their defender. They score several baskets a game on lay ups from this
    cutting action.

    SET PLAYS
    1. On ball/flare screen for post.
    2. Fake Shuffle cut, down screen for post on right block for shot on top.
    3. Decoy shuffle cut, post cut to wing and back door for lay up.
    4. Zipper cut to opposite wing, on catch, small/big cross screen at block.

    ZONE OFFENSE
Basic zone offense look begins in 4 out/1 in set. Wings are free to cross under basket. Passers cut
through the zone to open areas. At times the post comes out to on ball screen on the guards making
it a 5 out zone offense. A guard could take the inside position at times but vacate after a few
    seconds.

    OB PLAYS
Two baseline plays give them good scoring opportunities. First play is a triple screen at the free throw line for a post shooter. Another play begins with a single cutter then a second cutter off a double screen. Ball is reversed and a diagonal screen is set for a shuffle cut. Both plays are effective when good screens are set.

    DEFENSIVE CHARACTERISTICS
One of their best defensive tactics is to play the low post with front and back defenders. Player
fronting must sprint back to his may as ball stays on the perimeter. Play man-to-man a majority of the
time. Use size and length to disrupt the offensive strategies of the offense. Play good basic position
defense. Will gamble from time to time. Good defensive rebounding team.
