PITESTI (Romania) - Estonia and Denmark have earned promotion to Division A from the FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2025, Division B after both countries won their Semi-Finals in Pitesti.
Romania and Slovakia for their part will square off in Third Place Game for the final promotion spot on Sunday.
Estonia ended a long wait to finally get to the top flight with a 71-47 victory over hosts Romania. They last played in the Division A in 2008, and took control of the game by giving up only nine points in the third quarter.
Kaur Tomann paced the victors with 24 points and 8 rebounds while Roman Avdejev scored 13 points with 9 rebounds and Oliver Kullamae collected 11 points and 8 assists.
Denmark followed suit with a comfortable Semi-Finals win of their own, beating Slovakia 70-57 to return to Division A after being relegated from the top flight last summer.
The Danes raced away to a 12-point lead after just 10 minutes and extended the cushion to 21 points early in the second half. Slovakia managed to get the deficit down to seven points but could not finish the comeback.
Noah Norgaard collected 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals, and Anton Katholm had 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners.
Romania and Slovakia have one more chance to earn promotion as they play the Third Place Game. Romania haven't appeared in the Division A since 2007 while Slovakia's only summer in the top flight came when they hosted the event in 2017.
Hungary had five players score in double figures in a 99-67 blowout of Poland in Classification 5-8 action. Gabor Lukacsi hit 6 three-pointers for 26 points and Csongo Gal scored 20 points. Danilo Nikezic meanwhile poured in 24 points in Montenegro's 85-76 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the other 5-8 game.
Croatia will play for 9th place after beating Georgia 82-62 as they allowed only seven points in the second quarter. Borna Katanovic scored 27 points with 8 rebounds and 4 steals for the winners.
They will square off against Netherlands, who beat Portugal 66-63 thanks to Endurance Aiyamenkhue and Yanu Slingerland combining for 35 points and 18 rebounds.
