VITORIA (Euroleague) - Tau Ceramica ensured themselves a top seeding in the Euroleague’s Top 16 following a 76-64 defeat of Prokom Trefl Sopot on Wednesday.
Igor Rakocevic was the star man for the Vitoria-based team with his 20 points including three three-pointers and one from the charity stripe.
He received good support from Pablo Prigioni (13), Mirza Teletovic (12) and Luis Scola (12) while Michael Andersen poured in 15 for the losers with Donatas Slanina adding 11.
Also in Group A, Marcus Haislip poured in 17 points for Efes Pilsen in their 76-74 win at Climamio Bologna
Partizan improved their qualification chances from Group B with a 93-80 win at the expense of already-qualified leaders Panathinaikos.
Pana trailed by six points at the end of the third and the Serbs took the final quarter 24-17 despite a game-high 23 points from Tony Delk including 11 from 12 from the charity stripe.
Kosta Perovic, with 19 points, led Partizan for whom six players managed double digits.
DKV Joventut may have already progressed but they were on the wrong end of a 77-74 scoreline against Cibona who took the last quarter 18-14 to set up the win which was built on the back of Davor Kus’ 23-point haul.
Kus was a perfect five from five from the free throw line and six from seven inside the arc but only converted two of his seven attempts from downtown.
Unicaja Malaga beat Lottomatica Roma 68-66 in their match in that pool.
The Spaniards, who had ended Pana’s winning streak earlier in the competition, were full value for their win.
In Group C it was Benetton Treviso who impressed with an 87-66 win over Pau-Orthez. The Italians lost the first quarter 21-16 but pulverised the French side 32-12 in the second and never looked back.
