VALENCIA (ACB/Euroleague) - Power Electronics Valencia have handed the coaching reins to Serbian coaching great Svetislav Pesic.

The club has moved quickly following the sacking of Manuel Hussein after last week’s Euroleague defeat to Armani Jeans Milano.

Pesic has a wealth of experience in international basketball, and at various clubs in Europe – including the ACB.

He led Germany to the EuroBasket 1993 gold medal and steered the former Yugoslavia to the 2001 European crown and the 2002 FIBA World Championship gold medal in Indianapolis.

The following season, he guided Barcelona to a Copa del Rey, Euroleague and ACB treble.

In 2007, after a stint with Lottomatica Roma in Italy, Pesic steered an Akasvayu Girona side that had an emerging star Marc Gasol to the FIBA EuroCup title.

In his last two jobs, Pesic coached Dynamo Moscow and Red Star Belgrade.

He has been serving as the mentor for the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate program.

The vice president and general director of Valencia Basket, Paco Raga, said the club had given Pesic the option of a two-year contract but the veteran tactician elected for one.

"We were offering two years but we have signed him until the end of the season because Pesic considered it better that way for the club," Raga said in a statement.
