    MADRID (ACB) - Real Madrid have signed much-travelled guard Charles Smith on a one-year contract. Smith was taken at number 26 in the 1997 NBA draft by the Miami Heat before going on to play for the likes of the LA Clippers, San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets in America

    MADRID (ACB) - Real Madrid have signed much-travelled guard Charles Smith on a one-year contract.

    Smith was taken at number 26 in the 1997 NBA draft by the Miami Heat before going on to play for the likes of the LA Clippers, San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets in America.

    The 30-year-old has also spent time in Europe, representing Amatori Basket Udine, Scavolini Pesaro and Virtus Bologna in Italy, Makedonikos Kozani in Greece and Efes Pilsen in Turkey, who he was with earlier this year.

    The 6ft 4in Texan won the Alphonso Ford Trophy in 2004-05 as the top scorer in the Euroleague, while at Pesaro.

    "I am very happy to be here. It has been a great experience for me playing in the Euroleague, playing in Italy, in Greece and in Turkey," Smith said on Real`s official website.

    "I like playing in Europe, and for that reason I have returned. I feel comfortable and and want to do well at one of the greatest clubs in Europe."
