MADRID (2010 FIBA World Championship) - The new coach of world champions Spain, Sergio Scariolo, is to be unveiled to the media on Friday in Madrid.

The Italian, a long-time coach in Spain’s ACB who now leads BC Khimki in Russia, was announced as the replacement for Aito Garcia Reneses earlier this month.

Garcia left the post after Spain’s silver-medal performance at the Olympics and replaced Scariolo as coach of Unicaja Malaga.

Scariolo will address the media at the Hotel Melia with the press conference scheduled to start at 12:30pm local time.

His first big tournament in charge of Spain will be this summer at EuroBasket 2009 in Poland where the national side will compete in a group that includes Serbia, Slovenia and Great Britain.

The Spaniards will be aiming for gold, and to qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.
