BADALONA (ACB/Euroleague) - Spain’s DKV Joventut star Ricky Rubio will miss the first several games of his team’s Euroleague and ACB campaigns after having surgery on his right wrist.
The point guard got hurt during the gold medal game at the Olympics on August 24 when the United States beat Spain and he suffered a recurrence of the injury in the pre-season.
On Tuesday, Rubio had an arthroscopy and doctors discovered that he had ruptured a ligament in his wrist. The ligament was repaired and Rubio has been told to wear a cast for two weeks.
His condition will be evaluated in six weeks.
DKV, winners of last season’s ULEB Cup, open their Euroleague campaign at home against Union Olimpija on October 23. They lost their ACB opener at Regal Barcelona over the weekend with Rubio watching from the bench.
Rubio, voted to the ACB’s Ideal Quintet last season – his first full campaign as a starter in the DKV Joventut line-up – turns 18 on October 21.
