BARCELONA (Euroleague) – Xavi Pascual’s season didn’t finish the way he’d hoped, but at least the Barcelona coach gained further recognition on Wednesday for his outstanding campaign in Europe.

The 37-year-old on Wednesday was named as the recipient of the Euroleague Basketball Alexander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year Trophy.

Pascual led Barcelona in an impressive campaign that saw them ultimately hammer Olympiacos in the Euroleague final.

In the voting done by Euroleague coaches, Partizan Belgrade boss Dusko Vujosevic was runner-up with Asseco Prokom’s Tomas Pacesas third.

In Spain, Pascual’s Barcelona won the Supercopa and the Copa del Rey but were denied a fourth trophy when Caja Laboral upset the Catalans 3-0 in the ACB play-off finals.

The Coach of the Year Trophy was first handed out in 2005.

Pascual is the youngest coach to receive the honor.
