BARCELONA (ACB/Euroleague) - European giants Barcelona on Thursday parted ways with coach Dusko Ivanovic - just hours ahead of their Euroleague Top 16 opener against Unicaja Malaga.

Ivanovic, who joined the Catalan team a few seasons ago from Tau Ceramica, took Barca to the 2006 Euroleague Final Four in Prague where they were beaten by CSKA.

Last season, Ivanovic led the team to Copa del Rey glory, but this year, they exited the competition in the first round in Vitoria, the place he used to call home as Tau boss.

The departure of Ivanovic was confirmed on the club's website.

A statement said: "Barcelona announces it has decided to end its working relationship with coach Dusko Ivanovic. Assistant coach Xavier Pascual will, for the time being, take charge of the first team. The Catalan coach will be in charge tonight (20:45) in the game between AXA FC Barcelona and Unicaja de Málaga in the first game of the Top 16."
Barcelona are fifth in the ACB with 14 wins from 20 games.
