VITORIA (Euroleague) – Spain’s national team had four players making headlines on Thursday night.
Other than the muscle strain picked up by Rudy Fernandez while playing in Real Madrid’s Turkish Airlines Euroleague victory over Belgacom Spirou, an injury that will sideline him for seven days, the developments were positive for Fernando San Emeterio, Juan Carlos Navarro and Serge Ibaka.
San Emeterio had 25 points and eight rebounds for Caja Laboral in their 90-85 overtime win against Fenerbahce Ulker.
The 27-year-old finished with a ranking of 36 and earned the Player of the Week honor in the Euroleague.
San Emeterio had a solid summer with Spain at the EuroBasket, averaging 12.8 minutes per game.
Navarro, the EuroBasket 2011 MVP, became the Euroleague's all-time leading scorer on Thursday.
In Barcelona's 72-46 blowout of Union Olimpija, the 31-year-old 'La Bomba' poured in 14 points and now has 2,716 in his career.
Marcus Brown, who recently retired at the age of 37, had been the league’s all-time leading scorer with 2,715 in his career.
Ibaka, meanwhile, who had five blocks in the first half of Spain's EuroBasket 2011 gold-medal win over France in Kaunas, had five more along with 12 points and nine rebounds in Real Madrid's 93-89 win over Belgacom.
It was Ibaka's best performance at Madrid since he joined the club in late October.
Ibaka and Fernandez are playing basketball for Madrid during the NBA lockout.
