ASMARA (Olympic Solidarity Technical course for coaches) – The technical course for coaches took place in the Eritrea’s capital city Asmara from the 1st to the 12th November 2010. The theoretical sessions were hosted in the Eritrea Olympic Association offices and practical sessions were on Boca Fila, an open-air basketball court nearby.

Mr. Owino Ronald Onyango, host to this programme in the past, conducted the beginner-level courses for 29 participants (27 men and 2 women). The main objective was to develop specific skills and knowledge in order to improve management of young teams.

A series of techniques were used to cover topics such as the philosophy of coaching and leadership, effective communication, fundamental basketball skills, and scouting. Open discussions allowed coaches to exchange experiences, furthering the value of the clinic. During the practical sessions, players from local basketball clubs participated to help illustrate theories learned throughout the course.
