    Draw for 2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship to take place on 3 March

    SAN JUAN (2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship) - FIBA Americas and Canada Basketball are preparing for the first stop on the road to the 2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship, with the announcement that the tournament's draw is to take place on Tuesday 3 March at Edmonton’s City Hall.

    The continental championship will be held from 9-16 August in the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta and will serve as a qualifying event for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

    The 10 participating teams are: 
    Host: Canada
    South American teams: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, EcuadorVenezuela
    Caribbean teams: Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands

    The teams will be paired in the draw in the following way:
    Cuba-Argentina
    Puerto Rico-Venezuela
    Dominican Republic-US Virgin Islands
    Chile-Ecuador
    Brazil-Canada

    The 10 teams will be drawn into two groups of five (5) teams each. The first phase of the tournament will be played in a round robin format, with every team taking on its four (4) opponents in its respective group.

    At the end of the first phase, the top two (2) teams from each group will qualify for the Semi-Finals. The first-placed team from Group A will face the second-placed team from Group B and vice-versa. The winners of the two Semi-Finals will do battle for the title in the Final, while the losers of the Semi-Finals will go face to face in the Third-Place Game.

    Cuba are the title-holders, having won the 2013 FIBA Americas Women's Championship staged Xalapa, Mexico.
