SANTO DOMINGO (BSD) - Naco have been crowned the Baloncesto Superior Distrital league champions after beating Villa Francisca 3-1 in the best-of-five final.
Luis Flores and Andy Williams combined for 20 points as Naco won their first ever title thanks to a 98-73 win in Game Four.
Marlon Martinez was named the finals' MVP following his impressive contribution throughout the series.
With 23 points and five rebounds, he helped Naco win Game One 92-80.
Although he poured in 15 points and hauled down 10 rebounds, he could not prevent Naco from losing Game Gwo 108-100 after two periods of overtime, but on
Friday night Naco won a crucial Game Three, needing overtime for a 76-75 result in which Martinez top-scored with 23 points.
Finally, in Game Four, he totalled 15 points and 11 rebounds.
"Naco needed a group of players capable of clinching the title and we did it," said Martinez afterwards.
Naco also had the regular season's MVP in forward Ivan Almonte, who led Naco to a 10-2 record and averaged 17.9 points, 14.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
"We demonstrated we can overcome a lot of difficulties. I thank God for having given me talent to play basketball," said Almonte.
