    SANTO DOMINGO - Former NBA player, Sammy Mejia, guaranteed his participation in the Dominican national team for the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship and the rest of the international tournaments in the near future.

    The 6'5" player was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the second round, 57 pick of the 2007 NBA Draft from DePaul. He also played in the NBDL and Greece for AEL.

    Actually Mejia played for Pueblo Nuevo who is in the final against GUG in the Santiago League.

    Mejia met with Frank Herasme, President of Fedombal, among other local authorities.

    Mejia said: "it is a great satisfaction to represent the Dominican Republic, the land of my father and many members of my family, that is why I am motivated to go into the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship."

    The player born in New York, has a father who is from Villa Francisca, so Fedombal will make the moves to confirm his citizenship.
