DOM – 2010 Centrobasket Championship draw

SANTO DOMINGO (2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men) – FIBA Americas and the Dominican Basketball Federation held the 2010 Centrobasket Championship draw at the headquarters of the Dominican Olympic Committee in Santo Domingo.

The draw ceremony began with a statement by the Dominican Basketball Federation President, Frank Herasme. FIBA-Americas was represented by the Event Manager, Javier Otero.

FIBA-Americas Technical Director, Mr. Anibal Garcia, explained the rules of the draw before drawing the ten participating countries into two groups of five teams each.

The group composition is as follows:
Group A: US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Panama, Jamaica and Dominican Republic.
Group B: Puerto Rico, Belize, Trinidad & Tobago, México and Cuba.

Competition schedule:
In the Preliminary Round each team plays against the other four in their respective group (July 5-9). The top two teams progress to the next round, while the other six teams go home.

Monday, 5 July:
British Virgin Islands vs US Virgin Islands
México vs Cuba
Trinidad & Tobago vs Belize
Dominican Republic vs Panamá
Bye: Jamaica and Puerto Rico

Tuesday, 6 July:
Panamá vs British Virgin Islands
Puerto Rico vs Trinidad & Tobago
Belize vs México
Jamaica vs Dominican Republic
Bye: US Virgin Islands and Cuba.

Wednesday, 7 July:
US Virgin Islands vs Panamá
British Virgin Islands vs Jamaica
Cuba vs Belize
México vs Puerto Rico
Bye: Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago

Thursday, 8 July:
Jamaica vs US Virgin Islands
Trinidad & Tobago vs México
Puerto Rico vs Cuba
Dominican Republic vs British Virgin Islands
Bye: Panamá and Belize

Friday, 9 July:
Panamá vs Jamaica
Belize vs Puerto Rico
Cuba vsTrinidad & Tobago
US Virgin Islands vs Dominican Republic
Bye: British Virgin Islands and México

Semifinals: Saturday, 10 July
The top two teams in each group progress to the semifinal (1A v 2B, 1B v 2A). The other six teams end their participation.

Winner semifinal 1 vs Winner semifinal 2

*The order and time of the games will be announced at a later stage.

The 2010 Centrobasket Championship qualifies the top four teams for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship (Pre-Olympic), the top eight for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and the top three for the 2011 Pan-American Games scheduled for Guadalajara, Mexico.
