    DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2016 Groups and Schedule announced

    SAN JUAN (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2016) – The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas announced the groups and schedule of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2016.

    SAN JUAN (DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2016) – The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas announced the groups and schedule of the  DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana 2016.
     
    The 21st edition of the regional league will begin on September 21st in Comodoro, Argentina and will crown a champion on the first week of December.
     
    Group A – September 20-22 - Host City: Comodoro Rivadavia, ARG
    Gimnasia de Comodoro (ARG)
    Mogi Das Cruzes (BRA)
    Defensor Sporting (URU)
    Regatas Lima (PER)
     
    Group B – September 27-29 – Host City: Valdivia, CHI
    Deportivo Valdivia (CHI)
    Weber Bahia Blanca (ARG)
    Hebraica Macabi (URU)
    Universidad San Simon (BOL)
     
    Group C – October 4-6 – Host City: Barquisimeto, VEN
    Guaros de Lara (VEN)
    Paulistano (BRA)
    Trouville (URU)
    Bucaros de Bucaramanga (COL)
     
    Group D – October 11-13 – Host City: Santiago del Estero, ARG
    Olímpico de Santiago del Estero (ARG)
    UniCEUB (BRA)
    Gigantes Guayana (VEN)
    Universidad Concepción (CHI)
     
    In the Group Phase, teams were divided into four (4) groups of four (4) and will play in round robin format during three (3) days. The top two teams (2) from each group will then qualify to the Semifinal Phase.

    In the Semifinal Phase the eight (8) teams will be divided into two (2) groups of four (4) where they will play in a round-robin format to determine the top team of each group.

    Those two (2) teams will then go onto play in a best-of-five (5) games series to determine the 2016 DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana Champion.

We are confident it will be competitive, high-level league with 16 teams fighting to join this historic list of South American champions.", said Gerasime Bozikis, President of the South American Basketball Association (ABASU). "It will be a great celebration and spectacle for the fans of our sport, the participating clubs and host cities that will enjoy the best basketball South America has to offer."

    Uniceub/BRB of Brasilia, Brazil, participating in this 2016 edition is the current defending champion of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana.
