CORRIENTES (2015 DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana) - Deryk Evandro Ramos capped the most amazing week of his career with a second straight game-winning shot on Wednesday night to lead UniCEUB BRB to the 2015 DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana championship.
The 21-year-old point guard, who lifted the team to a 94-92 Game 1 triumph over San Martin last week in Brasilia when he buried a three-pointer with 1.6 seconds left to play, nailed another three-ball with less than a second remaining in Game 2 for an 82-79 victory in Argentina.
Deryk, with 28 points in the opening clash and 19 in Game 2, was named MVP of the Liga Sudamericana Grand Finale.
In a wild finish, the 21-year-old gave San Martin life with just six seconds remaining when he fouled Matias Lescano when the veteran was attempting a three-pointer. Lescano, the San Martin captain, made all three attempts from the free-throw line to knot the contest at 79-79.
However, Deryk and UniCEUB had the final say. Guilherme Giovannoni, the captain of the visiting side and the long-time Brazil international, made a move towards the basket. Double-teamed by the San Martin defense, he passed to a wide-open Deryk and he drilled the game-winner from beyond the arc at the top of the key.
Deryk made five of eight shots from long range in the game.
Uniceub have now captured the Liga Sudamericana title on three occasions. Their first triumph in the competition came in 2010 and the second in 2013, when Guilherme was the MVP.
There many veterans and talented players contesting for spots in Brazil's Olympic squad, with the country staging the Summer Games next August.
Deryk, who played for Brazil at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship, has once again done his chances of earning an invite to the preliminary squad no harm with his heroics.
