LEON (Mexico) - The draw has been set amid much anticipation for the fifth edition of the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup on November 27-30 as continental bragging rights go up for grabs.
In the men's, hoops powerhouse USA have top billing as they look to defend their crown. The Americans have absolutely owned this event, having claimed the title three times from four events and they will be led by reigning MVP Henry Caruso. Mexico and Cayman Islands will be early tests for USA in Pool A.
No.2 seed Puerto Rico headline Pool B as they look to continue their formidable record at the tournament they won in 2023 and they only just fell short of defending their title last year. Dominican Republic and the winner of QD A featuring Jamaica, Guyana and Saint Lucia also feature in this group.
Regional power Canada finally broke through last year and claimed their first AmeriCup medal after winning bronze. The No.3 seed will set their sights even higher this time and will be in Pool C along with Argentina and the winner of QD B comprising Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Bahamas.
Pool D is highlighted by a blockbuster between No.4 seed Chile and Brazil, who have both won plenty of medals previously. The third team in the group will emerge from QD C featuring Venezuela, Haiti, Paraguay and Ecuador.
In the women's, defending champs Canada kick start their title defense with intriguing games against Cayman Islands and Dominican Republic in Pool A.
Canada's biggest threat is likely to be rival USA, with both North American powerhouses gunning for a third title. No.2 seed USA will be put to the test immediately against powerhouse Brazil, who have medalled in the previous four editions. Jamaica will be out to prove that they are no third wheel in Pool B.
The focus in Pool C will be an intriguing clash between third seed Puerto Rico and host Mexico, while the third team will emerge from the QD featuring Uruguay, Venezuela, Ecuador and Paraguay.
Chile and Argentina will face each other in Pool D, with the third team to emerge from QD.
FIBA
