LAUSANNE (Switzerland) - The second day of action in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup continued to deliver. Whether it was historic wins, exciting games, or monster individual performances, the young stars put on a show. Here are the top five performers who stood out.
Jordan Charles was the top scorer for Canada with 27 points on 5 three-pointers as they battled back from being down by as much as 17 points against Slovenia to winning by 19 points. In what was one of the biggest point reversal in the history of the competition, Charles also recorded 6 rebounds and 5 assists
Mikel Brown bounced back in his second game of the competition, leading USA in scoring with 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field - 6 of which were three-pointers - to beat France. He had struggled earlier in their first game against Australia (3-of-14), but that seems to be in the rear-view mirror now.
History was made for Swiss basketball with their win over the Dominican Republic and leading the charge was Dayan Nessah who continues to shine for the home team. Nessah recorded and all-around line of 23 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists while also knocking down 4 three-pointers in the win.
Another player and team that captured their first victory of the competition in the day was Argentina's Tyler Kropp. It was an exciting game against Serbia, much to delight of the fans in attendance which including the Argentian legend Luis Scola. Fortunately for Scola, Argentina came out victorious with Kropp scoring 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting while also grabbing 9 rebounds.
Amadou Seini put up a historic effort in Cameroon's hearting breaking double-overtime loss to Australia, grabbing 24 rebounds close in on the all-time rebound record - finished at second on the list. He was all over the court of defense as well with 3 steals and 3 blocks while also putting in 15 points, never backing down as Cameroon battled on.
An hour after the game ended, Seinin's rebound total was listed as 25. However, by the next morning, the stat had been reviewed and adjusted back to 24.
