    Short Read

Brazilian power foward Damiris Dantas rose to No. 2 on the latest Women’s AmeriCup scoring leaderboard after dropping 21 points in her country’s win over El Salvador on Wednesday.

SANTIAGO (Chile) – Damiris Dantas has reached another milestone in her storied FIBA Women’s AmeriCup career. The Brazilian center scored 21 points during her country’s win over El Salvador on Wednesday to reach 401 points, rising to the No. 2 spot in scoring since 2003. The 32-year-old arrived in Santiago, Chile, with 326 and proceeded to drop 24 on Argentina, 20 on Canada, 14 on Dominican Republic, and another 21 in her last game of the Group Stage.

“Ooh! I feel good, got a win today, and now I have a new record,” Dantas said in an interview with FIBA Americas. “It's very fun… I love playing for my country— for my national team.”

"This year is my 15th year on the national team. I'm so happy. It's my dream,” she added. The Indiana Fever star now only trails Yamara Amargo (Cuba), who racked up 523 points in 41 games across 8 different AmeriCup editions. Dantas, who was a member of the All-Star 5 in the 2019 and 2023 editions, now has 29 AmeriCup games under her belt across 5 editions. After Wednesday’s performance, she has scored over 20 on six different occasions. Her overall AmeriCup scoring average is 13.8 points per game. She’s also in the AmeriCup modern era Top 10 in rebounds with 171 boards (No. 8), another feather in the cap of the FIBA Women’s U19 Championship MVP in 2011. The win was Brazil’s 12th in a row at the AmeriCup, and Dantas admitted they’re not satisfied. After the game, she expressed her future goals with Brazil.

“Yeah, I have a lot of goals, especially with the national team,” she said.

We need to get back to the Olympics. We need to get back to the World Cup.”
